ReadMe for !SplitMPEG by Stefan Brueck
--------------------------------------
!SplitMPEG is a front-end for the command-line MPEGdecode application ported
to RiscOS by Soren Lange & Henrik Bjerregaard Pedersen. This is a port of the
Berkley MPEG decoder version 2.0 (27.01.93)
The MPEGdecode application has been included with this FrontEnd application.
The full set of MPEGworks can be found on Hensa, the Arcade BBS, and possibly
PD libraries. The full program will allow encoding of MPEGS.
This program requires the FrontEnd modules as supplied with the Acorn C compiler.
If you already have C then these modules are already installed in your !System
folder, otherwise you will have to install them from the CD before this
application will run. Load Configure by double-clicking on !Boot. Click on
the System option, and then drag the !System folder from the SplitMPEG archive
onto this window to update your System folder. You may need to reboot.
!SplitMPEG converts MPEG movies to type-2 Replay movies. Unfortunately these
movies will be very large as they are uncompressed. A typical 700K MPEG with no
sound will take up 17MB as a replay file. Compressing this with !AREncode will
create approximately a 2MB replay file.
MPEGS with sound will not retain their sound when converted to Replays.
Converting an MPEG
------------------
Load the !SplitMPEG application, and drag an MPEG movie onto the iconbar icon.
The main window will then be displayed. Select 'Acorn Replay' as the output
for the convesion, and then specify the 'Path & Filename for film'. This *must*
be on a hard disc with at least 20 Megabytes free. Now click Run. A status
window will inform you when the conversion is complete.
Compressing a Replay Movie
--------------------------
To successfully compress a !SplitMPEG-converted movie select 'Moving Lines' as
the compression method.
